New Year – Books to Love

I’ve had so much fun this year with the RagingAging Lit scene (Note: I just made up that Raging Aging Lit descriptor.I kind of like it! What do you think?).  I enjoyed reading Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series, Clare Pooley’s How to Age Disgracefully and the Authenticity Project, as well as the Marlow Murder Club series by Robert Thorogood. But my absolute fave this year was Nova Scotia writer Lesley Crewe’s The Spoon Stealer. I met Lesley at a reading in Huntsville, Ontario. She’s terrific!

If you’ve ever been to Thunder Bay, you’ll know that our city is set on the shore of the world’s largest freshwater lake. Occasionally that lake, or inland sea, freezes smooth to allow for skating. Jean E. Pendziwol’s magnificent book, Skating Wild on an Inland Sea, is a delight for skaters or wannabe skaters of all ages. Jean’s book has won major awards this year, including the Governor General’s Award for Literature in the Young Adults Literary/Illustrated book category and the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award.
