NANCY ANGUS

is a joy-filled advocate for aging BIG!

Nancy is a grassroots community changemaker, speaker, writer, fitness instructor, storyteller and radio contributor.

Since she was young, she’s been passionate and curious about getting old!  She has been surrounded by people who have aged BIG…  folks who have approached life Boldly, Inquisitively and Gratefully.

Nancy loves stories.  She’s worked as a recreationist, writer, speaker, and radio broadcaster, and is a passionate community leader.

She’s won recognition for her innovative work with seniors including 2024’s Ontario Community Changemaker award.

She holds a BA in Psychology as well as certificates in Gerontology and Adult/Continuing Education.  She’s a certified Ageless Grace® fitness instructor, a quiz master and a retirement coach.  Her advocacy work in meeting the needs of a growing senior population generates waves of commitment and action for positive change.

Previous partners:

A believer in life-long learning through recreation, she learned to swim at age 55. And, as a true recreationist, she threw herself a party at a municipal outdoor pool to celebrate!

After retiring from a career in recreation, volunteer management, freelance writing & broadcasting, Nancy launched Age BIG.

The BIG movement for aging with friends and neighbours has won awards, but more importantly, has connected people across North America while learning, moving and laughing together.

Nancy’s impact is undeniable.

As a result of their advocacy work, Nancy & age BIG have:

  • Created and steered the effort to bring the Oasis Aging in Place national model, led by Queens University, to 2 sites in Thunder Bay.

  • Worked with hundreds of participants throughout North America via online and in-person programs.

  • Advocated for aging-in-place opportunities and needs through a presentation to the Mayor's Committee on Building More Homes.

Nancy trained under an 'aging master’ - her mother, Sis Angus. For all 101+ years of her life, Sis packed so much love, joy + kindness into every day. She was a role model and mentor to many, and she demonstrated by example how to live BIG every day through her 5-word philosophy:

Hug. Smile. Walk. Talk. Help.

Check out the blog, inspired by Sis’ teachings. You don't have to have known Sis to enjoy her advice and learn from her. Look around and find someone like Sis who inspires you, or try to be a Sis for someone else!
